I have to admit, I’m a bit nervous about this upcoming winter. Winter and a two-year-old is one thing, but winter with a two-year-old and a two-month-old is mind-boggling. One won’t want to go outside at all, the other won’t want to be inside.

We spend a lot of time outside right now. The current favorite thing to do is chalk. Lots of chalk. “Momma play chalk! Sure.”

I’ve been doing a lot of research on indoor activities that will burn off some of his energy so he will at least nap during the day. If you have any suggestions, please let me know!

We had a trial run the other day with three inches of thick, wet, heavy snow. It was fun to look at, but trekking to story-time was not great. Only four more months to go! Surely we can’t go crazy in four months. Surely not…

Applesauce! November 8, 2011

The Start

As I type the word applesauce, I can hear my little one saying it with a huge smile on his face! He does love his applesauce. I’ve been getting these great pre-packaged pouches of applesauce that he can enjoy by himself. No spoon, no bowl, no mess! I still get the jars too, but that is mainly for baking and jello.

I found a fun looking recipe for Crockpot Applesauce and I had some apples in the freezer from last year that needed attention, so voila! I experimented.  Instead of fresh apples (mine are yet to be processed) I used 9 cups of already frozen apples and skipped the water. After 4 hours, I added only 2 tablespoons of sugar, and some cinnamon, ginger, allspice, and cloves. I can’t give you measurements, because I just sprinkled it all in until it looked ‘just right.’

Well, the result was wonderful! Chunky, warm, delicious applesauce. My husband kept telling me it tasted like apple crumble filling. Experiment a success!

The final product

Have you been experimenting lately?

It’s that time of year again. I’m not talking about pumpkin pie, sweaters and snow time of year. I’m talking about people on Facebook attempting to post each day in November something that they are thankful for. I decided this year I’m going to try it. Only, not on Facebook. Considering I can’t even get my holiday cards out on time I’m not sure how this will go, but I’m going for it. Now, to catch up.

November 1st: Windex. I love the smell. I know it’s weird, but when I was pregnant I cleaned the windows religiously. I thought it would be odd to just spray Windex around.

November 2nd: Grandparents.  Always an interesting time when the family comes to visit. You never know how it’s going to end up. But, Great-Grandma & Grandma came down to hang with me and the kids and it was awesome. I learned how to make red beans & rice and learned some cool stuff about my mom & grandma.

Since it’s after midnight, I’ll go ahead and do November 3rd: I think it’s summed up in one word. pacifiers
